County Burial Allowance

The County Burial Allowance is a fund for Veterans who have at least 90 days of wartime service, honorably discharged, and a resident of Lapeer County. If the estate, (real & personal), does not exceed $40,000 excluding the homestead, the family can receive up to $1,000 toward the funeral expense from Lapeer County. The Veteran must also have been a resident of Michigan for a period of six months before entering service, or for a period of three years immediately preceding death. Application for this allowance must be received within 2 years from date of death.
