Inmate Information

Mail - Inmates are permitted to write any person outside of our facility. All incoming inmate correspondence must be addressed as follows:

All incoming mail must reflect sender's name and address.
All mail must be sent via USPS.
All incoming mail will be opened and inspected expect legal mail, this will be opened in inmate presence.
All income mail will be photocopied including photos. The photocopies will be delivered to the inmate with the originals being placed in inmate's property. This does not apply to legal mail. 
Any incoming mail appearing unusual or having an odor will be returned to the sender. 
No packages of any kind will be accepted.
Items not allowed are magazines, hard cover books, jewelry, food items, cash, checks, or sexually explicit photos. Items sent that are unacceptable will be placed in the inmate's personal property and returned upon release. Food items will be destroyed. 

Electronic Mail - Inmates may receive electronic messages and electronic photos via the in-cell kiosks. This service is provided by third party contact and there is a 50-cent fee to send messages or photos. 
Electonic messages and electronic photographs are screened for content. Any electronic messages deemed inappropriate will be rejected. Inmates will be notified of rejected messages or photos. No credit will be given for rejected messages or photos. 

Personal Property - If sentenced to prison, an inmate's personal property can be released to a family member. All unclaimed property will be discarded after 90 days.

Bonds - All cash bonds may be posted in the lobby, online or directly through the courts. To avoid fees related to bond posting, you must post bond at the courthouse. Current list

Surety Bonds - May be posted by an agency approved by our courts, which is posted in the lobby of the Lapeer County Jail. The Lapeer County Jail, in no way, endorses any particular bond company and does not partake in any contract between a defendant and the bonding company.
