Substance Abuse Services (AICC)

AGENCY PHILOSOPHY
AICC believes that substance abuse is a treatable disease.  AICC subscribes to the philosophy that successful treatment of substance use is a possibility and that successful treatment implies restoration of health, a new lifestyle, and no abuse of any substances.

PROGRAM GOAL
To reduce morbidity, recidivism, and addiction related to substance use for the specific target population as defined in the Michigan Department of Public Health, state, local Health services analysis, and to the community at large.

Alcohol Information and Counseling Center is a fully accredited outpatient counseling agency that is a division of the Lapeer County Health Department.  It provides the following services at the main office in multiple formats including face-to-face, telephone, or Zoom depending on the service;

  • Individual and group substance use disorder counseling
  • Individual Prevention services
  • Family and Parenting Classes
  • Anger Management Classes
  • Adolescent Prevention Services
  • Cognitive Restructuring Classes
  • Life Skills Programs

Alcohol Information and Counseling Center (AICC) provides the following services in conjunction with several of the school districts either in the school or at the main office

  • Adolescent and Pre-Adolescent Life Skills Classes
  • Basic Drug and Alcohol Education/Early Intervention Class
  • Parenting for Adults (Love & Logic and/or Strengthening Families)

Life skills classes are facilitated through evidence-based workbooks that address issues such as feelings, emotions, handling difficult or risky situations, communication, and relationships.

Interactive Journaling and Basic Drug and Alcohol education are done either through evidence-based workbooks or up to four sessions of work addressing the risks and consequences of using substances.
