Hearing and vision screening is required by the Michigan Public health Code.  It is available free through the Lapeer County Health Department.  All children starting kindergarten or preschool must have their hearing and vision tested BEFORE starting school.

Hearing & Vision Screenings in Schools
The Hearing and Vision program provides free screening to all Lapeer County children under age of 21 and to special education students up to age 26.  Health department technicians conduct free hearing and vision screening in all our schools and preschools (public, private and charter). They also screen students based on referrals from teachers, parents, nurses or physicians.

Vision screening includes testing for visual acuity, farsightedness, ability to use two eyes together and symptoms of eye problems.  Hearing screenings are done with an audiometer and other equipment based on the child’s needs.
